Shows the Plastic Extrusion process for Unbonded Post-Tensioning. Raw materials include steel PC Strand, corrosion-inhibiting Post Tensioning coating and HDPE plastic with color concentrate.
The steel strand is moving at over 200 feet per minute in the extrusion machine. First the steel PC strand is coated with corrosion-inhibiting Post-Tension Coating (“grease”). Then, the coated steel has either 40ml or 50ml of HDPE (high-density-polyethylene) plastic extruded over it. Finally, the extruded strand is cooled within a long trough of chilled water.
